Frequently asked questions
What do I get for free?
You get free study guides that explain the two Special Officer exams (City Exam 7327 and hospital Exam 7329), the requirements and what happens after the test, plus 30 free practice questions with explanations, all written from official NYC sources. You also get one free 15-question practice test that mixes the five abilities we cover, with your score, an ability-by-ability breakdown and every answer explained. Full access adds unlimited 40-question practice sets, tests on one ability at a time, targeted drills on your weakest abilities and a readiness score.
What is the difference between Exam 7327 and Exam 7329?
Exam 7327 is for Special Officer jobs in City agencies. Exam 7329 is for Special Officer jobs at NYC Health + Hospitals, the City's public hospital system. Each needs its own application and its own $61 fee. Both notices list the same six abilities and say testing is expected to begin on Monday, December 7, 2026. Filing for 7327 closed on September 22, 2026. Filing for 7329 runs until October 27, 2026.
How many questions are on the real exam, and how long is it?
That is not published. The notices list the abilities the test may cover, but they give no question count, no time limit and no weight for each ability. Our practice sets are 40 questions, our own length, with questions spread evenly across the abilities we cover. That spread is our choice, not the City's weighting.
Why don't you practice Time Sharing?
Both notices list Time Sharing, defined as "shifting back and forth between two or more sources of information," with one example: responding to emergencies. Neither notice, and no other official source we found, says what a Time Sharing question looks like. We will not invent a format and call it the real one, so our practice covers the other five abilities.
What score do I need to pass?
You need at least 70% to pass. Passing places you on the eligible list in score order with a list number. Eligible veterans can get 5 extra points (10 for disabled veterans), added only to a passing score and only if claimed before the list is established.
Why does my score matter if I only need 70%?
Because the list is ranked by score, and candidates are considered for hiring in list order. A higher score means a lower list number and an earlier call. This matters even more for Exam 7329: its notice says the list ends one year after it is established, unless NYC Health + Hospitals extends it. No official source says what score is high enough to be hired.
What happens on test day?
Your Admission Notice appears on your OASys Dashboard 14 days before testing is expected to begin. Bring one valid ID with your photo and signature, with a name that matches your application. Phones, smartwatches and other devices are sealed in a pouch until the exam event is over. Calculators are not allowed. Some questions may be answered from documents handed out on the test date.
Who can apply?
You must be at least 20 years old by the date of appointment. By appointment, you need a four-year high school diploma or its equivalent. For Exam 7329 only, an IEP diploma plus six months of full-time work also qualifies. You must be a US citizen and live in New York City at appointment, and the job is a Peace Officer position with a full background check.
Are these real exam questions?
No. DCAS publishes no sample questions for these exams. All our questions are original practice content written from the official ability definitions, set in hospital and City building situations.
