NY notary exam schedule: remaining 2026 dates

All dates are in 2026 and come from the DOS notices. White Plains had one date this half year (August 18), and the New York City walk-in dates ran only in July and August, so neither has walk-in dates left. Exams can be canceled because of weather or other emergencies.

Readers near Buffalo can also use Sanborn (SUNY Niagara). Long Island has two sites, Franklin Square and Hauppauge, each with one session a day.

NYC notary exam dates: by email request only

Since September 2026, the New York City exam at 123 William Street is given only to people DOS has scheduled by email (September - November notice, November - December notice). To ask for a date:

  1. Email exams@dos.ny.gov with the subject line "Schedule Notary Public Exam".
  2. Include your full name, your address, the type of exam (Notary Public) and the date or dates you want from the list above.
  3. Wait for the confirmation email with your date and time. Requests are answered in the order received, and if your date is full, DOS schedules you for the next available date.

Anyone who arrives unscheduled or after the start time is turned away. At the building, enter through the doors to the left of the main lobby and take the escalator to the 2nd floor.

What to bring and test-day rules

To check for weather cancellations, see the DOS website or its Facebook and X accounts, or call 518-474-4429. DOS asks people not to call the exam sites.

After the exam

Results are mailed as pass or fail, with no numeric score. DOS does not say how long they take. If you fail, you may retake the exam on another date and time of your choice, for another $15. A pass is valid for 2 years, and the next steps are in how to become a notary in NY. To prepare before your date, use our NY notary exam study guide.

The 2027 schedule

DOS had not posted any 2027 dates as of October 23, 2026. The Oneida County Clerk's page says the schedules are updated twice a year, so a notice for January through June 2027 is expected, but DOS has not given a date. Check the DOS Become a Notary Public page, which links the current notices.
