These 30 practice questions show the kind of questions and explanations you get with PrepRaven. They cover Logical Reasoning, the part of the Border Patrol Agent Entrance Exam described in the official 2026 Border Patrol Agent Entrance Exam Preparation Guide, from easy to hard. Every question is original. None of them is a real exam question.
Use this free Border Patrol practice test as a study guide for the Logical Reasoning Test, the part of the Border Patrol Agent Entrance Exam you can prepare for. Each question gives a short paragraph about government work and asks which conclusion can be validly drawn from it, or which one cannot, with five answer choices (A to E), as the 2026 guide describes. Every name, place, rule and fact in these paragraphs is made up for practice, so the answer always comes from what the paragraph states, never from outside knowledge. The other part of the exam, the Experience Record, needs no preparation according to the guide, so it is not practiced here.
Announcement BPA DH 27-1 is open on USAJOBS from October 1 to 31, 2026, and applicants selected at the GL-5 or GL-7 grade must pass the entrance exam.
Logical Reasoning
Read a paragraph about CBP or government work and pick the conclusion that follows from it, or the one that does not. Five choices per question, adaptive, with no skipping and no going back.
Question 1 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
All vehicles in the Vellmar station motor pool are inspected every 30 days. Some of the vehicles in the motor pool are four-wheel-drive trucks. During busy months, the station also uses rented vehicles, and rented vehicles are not part of the motor pool.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. All vehicles that are inspected every 30 days are in the station motor pool
- B. Every four-wheel-drive truck used by the station is in the motor pool
- C. Some four-wheel-drive trucks are inspected every 30 days
- D. Rented vehicles used by the station are never inspected
- E. Some vehicles in the motor pool are not inspected every 30 days
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Some motor pool vehicles are four-wheel-drive trucks, and every motor pool vehicle is inspected every 30 days, so those trucks are inspected every 30 days. The claim that everything inspected every 30 days is in the motor pool reverses the "all" statement. Nothing says every truck the station uses is in the motor pool, and the paragraph says nothing about whether rented vehicles are inspected. The claim that some motor pool vehicles are not inspected contradicts the first sentence.
Question 2 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
None of the radios issued to trainees at the Brakemoor training center are encrypted models. Every encrypted radio at the center is kept in the armory cabinet when it is not in use. Some of the radios issued to trainees are older handheld models.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. None of the encrypted radios at the center are radios issued to trainees
- B. All radios kept in the armory cabinet are encrypted models
- C. Some encrypted radios at the center are issued to trainees
- D. All older handheld radios at the center are issued to trainees
- E. No radio issued to a trainee is ever kept in the armory cabinet at the center
Show answer
Correct answer: A. A "none" statement works both ways: if no trainee radio is encrypted, then no encrypted radio is a trainee radio. The claim that everything in the armory cabinet is encrypted reverses the "every" statement. The claim that some encrypted radios go to trainees contradicts the first sentence. The paragraph says some trainee radios are older handhelds, not that all older handhelds go to trainees, and it never says trainee radios stay out of the armory cabinet.
Question 3 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Some agents assigned to the Calvent sector have completed advanced tracking training. Every agent who completes advanced tracking training receives a certificate from the training office.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Some agents assigned to the Calvent sector have not completed advanced tracking training
- B. Every agent who has a certificate from the training office completed advanced tracking training
- C. Every agent assigned to the Calvent sector has completed advanced tracking training
- D. No agent outside the Calvent sector has completed advanced tracking training
- E. Some agents assigned to the Calvent sector have received a certificate from the training office
Show answer
Correct answer: E. The agents in the Calvent sector who completed the training each received a certificate, so some agents in the sector have one. "Some" means at least some, so it does not show that any agent has not completed the training, and it does not show that every agent has. The training office may give certificates for other courses, so a certificate does not prove tracking training. The paragraph says nothing about agents outside the sector.
Question 4 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
If a seized item at the Dunmeric field office is entered into the evidence log, a bar-code label is attached to it. Items without a bar-code label cannot be moved to the long-term storage room.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. If a seized item at the office has a bar-code label, it has been entered into the evidence log
- B. If a seized item at the office has no bar-code label, it has not been entered into the evidence log
- C. If a seized item at the office has not been entered into the evidence log, it has no bar-code label
- D. Every item in the long-term storage room was entered into the evidence log
- E. Every item at the office with a bar-code label is moved to the long-term storage room
Show answer
Correct answer: B. If logging an item always brings a label, then an item with no label cannot have been logged; this is the valid contrapositive. The claim that a label proves the item was logged is the converse, and the claim that an unlogged item has no label is the inverse; labels may be attached for other reasons. Items in long-term storage must have labels, but a label does not prove logging. Nothing says every labeled item is moved to storage.
Question 5 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Most of the applicants who attended the March hiring event at the Esterhollow job center had already created an online account. A few of the applicants who attended asked about the fitness test. All applicants who attended received a printed checklist of the hiring steps.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Some applicants who attended had not created an online account
- B. Most applicants who asked about the fitness test had created an online account
- C. Only applicants who attended the event received a printed checklist
- D. Some applicants who asked about the fitness test received a printed checklist
- E. Every applicant who had created an online account attended the hiring event
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The applicants who asked about the fitness test attended the event, and every attendee received a checklist, so some who asked received one. "Most" says nothing about the rest, so it does not prove that anyone lacked an account, and nothing says every account holder attended the event. The paragraph does not say whether the few who asked had accounts. Nothing says checklists went only to attendees.
Question 6 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Every member of the Farrowgate station's search team is certified in first aid. All members of the search team have also completed a course in radio procedures. Some agents at the station who are certified in first aid are not on the search team.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. Every agent at the station who has completed a course in radio procedures is on the search team
- B. Some agents who are certified in first aid have completed a course in radio procedures
- C. No member of the search team lacks first-aid certification
- D. Not every agent at the station who is certified in first aid is on the search team
- E. Every member of the search team has first-aid certification and the radio course
Show answer
Correct answer: A. The paragraph says every search team member took the radio course, not that everyone who took the course is on the team, so that reversed statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: team members are certified and took the radio course, so some certified agents took it; "no member lacks" certification is a double negative that means every member has it; the third sentence shows not every certified agent is on the team; and the first two sentences together give each member both.
Question 7 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Visitors to the Gildmere federal building sign the paper log at the front desk unless they hold a building access card. Building access cards are issued only to employees and approved contractors.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. A visitor to the building who holds a building access card does not sign the paper log
- B. Every employee who works in the building holds a building access card
- C. A visitor to the building who did not sign the paper log holds a building access card
- D. Every visitor to the building who is not an employee signs the paper log
- E. Some approved contractors do not hold a building access card
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Every visitor who does not hold a card signs the log, so a visitor who did not sign must hold one. "Unless" does not say that cardholders never sign; they may sign anyway. "Only" limits who can get a card but does not say every employee has one. Approved contractors can hold cards, so a visitor who is not an employee may hold one and not sign. Nothing says any contractor lacks a card.
Question 8 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
All agency vehicles kept at the Islevane yard are refueled at the yard's own pump, except the yard's two patrol boats, which are refueled at the marina. The yard keeps a fuel record for every refueling done at its own pump.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. The yard keeps no fuel record for the two patrol boats
- B. Every vehicle refueled at the yard's pump is an agency vehicle kept at the yard
- C. Some agency vehicles at the yard, other than the boats, are refueled at the marina
- D. Every vehicle refueled at the marina is one of the yard's two patrol boats
- E. An agency vehicle at the yard that is not one of the patrol boats is refueled at the yard's pump
Show answer
Correct answer: E. The only exception to refueling at the yard's pump is the two boats, so every other agency vehicle at the yard uses the pump. The paragraph says records are kept for pump refuelings; it does not say none are kept for the boats. It does not say only yard vehicles use the pump, or that only the two boats use the marina. Other yard vehicles at the marina would contradict the first sentence.
Question 9 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Each new hire at the Kestover district office must either complete the online ethics course within 30 days or attend the classroom ethics session in the first week, and no new hire does both. Nadia Escarra, a new hire at the office, attended the classroom session in her first week.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Nadia Escarra will take the online ethics course after her first 30 days
- B. Most new hires at the office attend the classroom ethics session
- C. Nadia Escarra was the only new hire in her group to choose the classroom session
- D. Nadia Escarra did not complete the online ethics course within 30 days
- E. Anyone who attends the classroom ethics session at the office is a new hire
Show answer
Correct answer: D. No new hire does both, and Nadia Escarra attended the classroom session, so she did not complete the online course within 30 days. The paragraph says nothing about what she does after 30 days, how most new hires choose or what other new hires in her group did. It also does not say that only new hires attend the classroom session.
Question 10 (easy)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
No training firearm at the Lorrance range is loaded with live ammunition. All training firearms at the range are painted blue. Some of the blue firearms at the range are kept in the instructors' locker.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. No firearm at the range that is loaded with live ammunition is a training firearm
- B. No blue firearm at the range is loaded with live ammunition
- C. Some blue firearms at the range are training firearms
- D. Some firearms kept in the instructors' locker are blue
- E. Training firearms at the range are blue and are not loaded with live ammunition
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Every training firearm is blue, but the paragraph does not say every blue firearm is a training firearm, so a blue firearm that is not a training firearm could be loaded; that statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: the "no" statement works both ways; the blue training firearms make some blue firearms training firearms; the third sentence puts blue firearms in the locker; and the first two sentences give training firearms both facts.
Question 11 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Every agent at the Mavenrock station who works the night shift carries a thermal camera. All agents who carry a thermal camera must attend a yearly camera-care class. Some agents at the station who attend the camera-care class do not work the night shift.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Every agent at the station who attends the camera-care class carries a thermal camera
- B. Some agents at the station who carry a thermal camera do not work the night shift
- C. No agent at the station who works the day shift carries a thermal camera
- D. All agents at the station who attend the camera-care class work the night shift
- E. Every agent at the station who works the night shift must attend the yearly camera-care class
Show answer
Correct answer: E. Night-shift agents carry a camera, and camera carriers must attend the class, so every night-shift agent must attend. The class is required of camera carriers, but other agents may attend too, so attending does not prove an agent carries a camera; for the same reason, the day-shift agents in the class need not carry one. Nothing rules out day-shift agents carrying cameras. The third sentence contradicts the claim that all who attend work nights.
Question 12 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Only employees who have passed the background check may receive a key to the Norcastle records room. Some employees who have passed the background check work part time. Rosa Ferland has a key to the records room.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Every employee who has passed the background check has a key to the records room
- B. Rosa Ferland works part time
- C. Rosa Ferland has passed the background check
- D. No part-time employee has a key to the records room
- E. Some employees with a key to the records room work part time
Show answer
Correct answer: C. "Only" makes passing the check a requirement for a key, so Rosa Ferland, who has a key, has passed it. The requirement does not mean everyone who passed gets a key. The paragraph does not say whether Rosa Ferland or any other key holder works part time, so neither the claim that some key holders work part time nor the claim that none do can be concluded.
Question 13 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
If an agent at the Ostley station drives a station vehicle more than 200 miles in one shift, the agent files a mileage form before the end of that shift. Mileage forms go to the fleet manager, who reviews them every Monday. Agent Theo Vantreese filed no mileage form during his Tuesday shift.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. Every agent at the station who files a mileage form drove a station vehicle more than 200 miles in that shift
- B. Agent Vantreese did not drive a station vehicle more than 200 miles during his Tuesday shift
- C. An agent at the station who drives a station vehicle 250 miles in one shift files a mileage form before that shift ends
- D. The fleet manager reviews mileage forms on Mondays
- E. If an agent at the station files no mileage form during a shift, the agent did not drive a station vehicle more than 200 miles in that shift
Show answer
Correct answer: A. The rule says what happens after a long drive; it does not say a form is filed only after one, so the converse cannot be concluded. The other four follow: no form means no drive over 200 miles (the contrapositive), both for Agent Vantreese on Tuesday and for any agent; 250 miles is more than 200, so a form is filed; and the second sentence states the Monday review.
Question 14 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
None of the drones in the Quarrin sector's fleet can fly in winds over 35 mph. Some drones in the fleet carry night-vision cameras. A few drones that carry night-vision cameras are kept at the north base.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. All drones kept at the north base carry night-vision cameras
- B. Some drones in the sector's fleet can fly in winds over 35 mph
- C. Most drones in the sector's fleet do not carry night-vision cameras
- D. Some drones that carry night-vision cameras cannot fly in winds over 35 mph
- E. No drone kept at the north base can fly in winds over 35 mph
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The fleet drones that carry night-vision cameras share the fleet's limit, so some camera drones cannot fly in winds over 35 mph. The third sentence says some camera drones are at the north base, not that all north base drones have cameras. The claim that some fleet drones can fly in such winds contradicts the first sentence. "Some" says nothing about most. The north base drones may not belong to the fleet, so the wind limit may not apply to them.
Question 15 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Requests for overtime at the Rendale district office are approved by the deputy chief unless the request is for more than 16 hours in one week. Requests for more than 16 hours in one week are approved only by the chief. Every approved request is entered in the payroll system within two workdays.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. The chief at the office never approves requests for 16 hours or fewer
- B. An approved request at the office for 20 hours of overtime in one week was approved by the chief
- C. Every request entered in the office's payroll system was for more than 16 hours
- D. Requests that the chief denies are entered in the payroll system within two workdays
- E. Most overtime requests at the office are for 16 hours or fewer in one week
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Twenty hours is more than 16, and such requests are approved only by the chief, so an approved 20-hour request was approved by the chief. Nothing says the chief never approves smaller requests. Approved requests of any size are entered in payroll, not only large ones, and the paragraph says nothing about denied requests or about how many requests are small.
Question 16 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
At the Sabrook training academy, there is no trainee who is not issued a locker. Every locker at the academy has a combination lock. Some trainees share a locker with another trainee.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. Every trainee at the academy is issued a locker
- B. Some trainees at the academy are issued a locker that has a combination lock
- C. Some lockers at the academy are used by more than one trainee
- D. Every trainee at the academy shares a locker with another trainee
- E. No trainee at the academy uses a locker that has no combination lock
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The paragraph says some trainees share a locker; "some" does not mean all, so that statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: "no trainee who is not issued a locker" is a double negative meaning every trainee is issued one; every locker has a combination lock, so trainees' lockers have locks and no trainee uses a locker without one; and a shared locker is used by more than one trainee.
Question 17 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Almost all of the cargo containers inspected at the Tamarel rail yard last week came from the eastern line. Every container from the eastern line carries a steel seal. A few of the containers inspected last week had broken seals.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Some containers inspected at the yard last week carried a steel seal
- B. Every container inspected at the yard last week came from the eastern line
- C. All containers inspected last week with a broken seal came from the eastern line
- D. Every container that carries a steel seal came from the eastern line
- E. None of the containers from the eastern line had a broken seal
Show answer
Correct answer: A. The inspected containers from the eastern line each carry a steel seal, so some inspected containers carried one. "Almost all" is not "all", so the paragraph does not show that every container came from the eastern line. The paragraph does not say which line the containers with broken seals came from. Containers from other lines may also carry steel seals.
Question 18 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
If a call to the Ulvane station's tip line reports a possible fire, the duty officer alerts the county fire service. Whenever the duty officer alerts the county fire service, the duty officer writes an entry in the incident book. On Friday night, the duty officer wrote no entries in the incident book.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. No calls came in to the station's tip line on Friday night
- B. If the duty officer writes an entry in the incident book, the county fire service has been alerted
- C. If a tip line call does not report a possible fire, the duty officer does not alert the county fire service
- D. Someone other than the duty officer alerted the county fire service on Friday night
- E. No call to the station's tip line on Friday night reported a possible fire
Show answer
Correct answer: E. A fire call leads to an alert, and an alert leads to an entry; with no entry, there was no alert, so there was no fire call. Calls about other things may still have come in. The entry statement reverses the second sentence, since entries may be written for other reasons. The paragraph does not say the duty officer alerts the fire service only for fire calls, and it says nothing about anyone else alerting it.
Question 19 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
All employees of the Varrow field office must complete the yearly records course, except employees hired within the past 90 days. Only employees who complete the course may use the case database. Ines Marwick was hired at the office 30 days ago.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Ines Marwick may use the case database because she was hired within the past 90 days
- B. Every employee who has completed the yearly records course uses the case database
- C. Ines Marwick may use the case database only if she has completed the yearly records course
- D. Ines Marwick has completed the yearly records course
- E. No employee hired within the past 90 days has completed the yearly records course
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The "only" rule applies to every employee: completing the course is required to use the database, so Ines Marwick may use it only after completing the course. Her new-hire status excuses her from the requirement to take the course; it does not give her database access. "Only" does not mean everyone who completes the course uses the database. The paragraph does not say whether she or any other new hire has taken the course.
Question 20 (medium)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Some of the reports that agents at the Wendmoor station filed last month were not reviewed by a supervisor. Every report that a supervisor reviewed was sent to the sector office. A report is sent to the sector office only after a supervisor has reviewed it.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. Some reports that the agents filed last month were not sent to the sector office
- B. Some reports that the agents filed last month were reviewed by a supervisor
- C. Every report that was sent to the sector office had been reviewed by a supervisor
- D. If a supervisor reviewed a report, the report was sent to the sector office
- E. Not every report that the agents filed last month was reviewed by a supervisor
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Knowing that some reports were not reviewed does not tell you that any were reviewed, so that statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: a report is sent only after review, so the unreviewed reports were not sent and every sent report had been reviewed; the second sentence says every reviewed report was sent; and the first sentence means not every report was reviewed.
Question 21 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
At the Zelmont station, no equipment that is unserviceable is left on the issue shelf. Every item on the issue shelf has been checked by the armorer. Some items that the armorer has checked are not on the issue shelf.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Every item on the issue shelf at the station is serviceable
- B. All serviceable equipment at the station is on the issue shelf
- C. Some items that the armorer has checked are unserviceable
- D. Every item that the armorer has checked is serviceable
- E. No item that is not on the issue shelf has been checked by the armorer
Show answer
Correct answer: A. No unserviceable item is on the shelf, so every item on the shelf is not unserviceable, which means it is serviceable. Serviceable items may also be kept elsewhere. The checked items that are off the shelf could be serviceable or unserviceable; the paragraph does not say, so neither claim about all checked items or some checked items follows. The last claim contradicts the third sentence.
Question 22 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
An agent at the Corbray station may be assigned to the marine unit only if the agent has passed the swim test. Every agent at the station who has passed the swim test and has at least two years of service is eligible for the boat operator course. Agent Mara Ruzicka is assigned to the marine unit and has three years of service.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. Agent Ruzicka has passed the swim test
- B. Agent Ruzicka is eligible for the boat operator course
- C. If an agent at the station has not passed the swim test, the agent is not assigned to the marine unit
- D. Every agent at the station who has passed the swim test is assigned to the marine unit
- E. Some agents assigned to the marine unit are eligible for the boat operator course
Show answer
Correct answer: D. "Only if" makes the swim test a requirement for the marine unit, not a promise of a place in it, so that statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: Agent Ruzicka is in the marine unit, so she passed the swim test; with three years of service she is eligible for the course, which also makes some marine unit agents eligible; and an agent who has not passed the test cannot be in the unit.
Question 23 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
If a shipment at the Fallonridge warehouse is missing its packing list, the shipment is placed on hold. A shipment that is on hold cannot be loaded onto a truck. Every shipment that was loaded onto a truck on Monday was weighed first.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. A shipment at the warehouse that has its packing list is loaded onto a truck
- B. A shipment at the warehouse that is loaded onto a truck is not missing its packing list
- C. A shipment at the warehouse that is on hold is missing its packing list
- D. Every shipment that was weighed on Monday was loaded onto a truck
- E. Some shipments that were on hold on Monday were weighed
Show answer
Correct answer: B. A shipment missing its list is on hold, and a shipment on hold cannot be loaded; a loaded shipment is therefore is not on hold and is not missing its list. Having a list does not mean a shipment is loaded (the inverse). Shipments may be on hold for other reasons, so a hold does not prove a missing list (the converse). Weighing is required before Monday loading, but a weighed shipment need not be loaded, and nothing says shipments on hold were weighed.
Question 24 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Nobody in the Brennock sector's horse patrol unit works at the dispatch desk. Everyone who finished the riding program belongs to the horse patrol unit. Some employees who work at the dispatch desk took a map-reading class.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. Nobody who finished the riding program works at the dispatch desk
- B. Nobody who works at the dispatch desk belongs to the horse patrol unit
- C. Some employees who took a map-reading class do not belong to the horse patrol unit
- D. Some employees who took a map-reading class did not finish the riding program
- E. Nobody in the horse patrol unit took a map-reading class
Show answer
Correct answer: E. The paragraph gives no information about map-reading classes among horse patrol riders, so that statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: everyone who finished the riding program is in the unit, and nobody in the unit works at the dispatch desk, so no program graduate works there; the "nobody" statement works both ways; and the dispatch employees who took the map-reading class are not in the unit, which means they also did not finish the riding program.
Question 25 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Each case file at the Olvarra records unit is stored either in the paper archive or in the digital system, but not in both. All files older than ten years are in the paper archive. Every file in the digital system can be viewed from a field office. File 2219 cannot be viewed from a field office.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. File 2219 is older than ten years
- B. Every file in the paper archive is older than ten years
- C. File 2219 is stored in the paper archive
- D. No file older than ten years can be viewed from a field office
- E. Some files in the digital system are older than ten years
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Every digital file can be viewed from a field office, so File 2219 is not in the digital system, and each file is in one place or the other, which puts it in the paper archive. Newer files may also be in the paper archive, so File 2219 need not be older than ten years, and not every paper file must be old. Nothing says paper files cannot be viewed from a field office. Old files are all in paper, so none is in the digital system.
Question 26 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
Most agents at the Tesmarch station who applied for the canine program last year were accepted. Every agent accepted into the canine program attends a 12-week course. Some agents at the station who attended the 12-week course did not apply last year.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. Some agents at the station who applied last year were accepted
- B. Some agents at the station who were accepted into the canine program attend a 12-week course
- C. Not every agent at the station who attended the 12-week course applied last year
- D. Some agents at the station who applied last year attend a 12-week course
- E. Some agents at the station who applied last year were not accepted
Show answer
Correct answer: E. "Most" were accepted, but that says nothing about the rest; every applicant may have been accepted, so that statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: most means at least some applicants were accepted; those accepted agents, who applied last year, attend the course; and the third sentence says some course attendees did not apply last year, so not every attendee applied.
Question 27 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
At the Hallowmere station, a new agent may carry a service radio only after finishing radio training. Radio training is given only on the first Monday of each month. Agent Pia Quintanar, a new agent, joined the station in the middle of March and first carried a service radio on the Friday before the first Monday of April.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Agent Quintanar finished radio training on the first Monday of April
- B. Agent Quintanar finished radio training before she joined the station
- C. Agent Quintanar took her radio training at the Hallowmere station
- D. Agent Quintanar finished radio training on the first Monday of March
- E. Every new agent who finishes radio training carries a service radio within a week
Show answer
Correct answer: B. She carried a radio before the first Monday of April, so her training came on an earlier first Monday; the first Monday of March falls in the first week of March, before she joined in the middle of the month. April's first Monday came after she carried the radio. The paragraph does not say where she trained, and she could have trained in March or in an earlier month. Nothing says how soon trained agents carry radios.
Question 28 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
None of the nonemergency calls received by the Pinvale dispatch center are sent to the patrol supervisor. A few of the calls the center receives are about lost property, and every call about lost property is a nonemergency call. Some of the calls the center sends to the patrol supervisor are about road hazards.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. No call about lost property received by the center is sent to the patrol supervisor
- B. Some calls about road hazards received by the center are not nonemergency calls
- C. No call about a road hazard received by the center is a nonemergency call
- D. Every call the center sends to the patrol supervisor is not a nonemergency call
- E. Some calls received by the center are nonemergency calls
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Only some road hazard calls are known to go to the supervisor; others may be nonemergency calls, so that statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: lost property calls are nonemergency calls, which are never sent to the supervisor; the road hazard calls that are sent to the supervisor cannot be nonemergency calls; no call sent to the supervisor is nonemergency; and the lost property calls are nonemergency calls the center receives.
Question 29 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
No agent at the Ketterby station drives a patrol boat unless the agent holds a boat operator card. Boat operator cards are issued only to agents who have passed both the navigation exam and the engine safety course. Agent Ruben Solano drove a patrol boat on Saturday.
From the information given above, which of the following can be validly concluded?
- A. Agent Solano has passed the navigation exam
- B. Every agent at the station who holds a boat operator card drives a patrol boat
- C. Agent Solano drove the patrol boat alone on Saturday
- D. Every agent who has passed the navigation exam holds a boat operator card
- E. If an agent at the station has passed the engine safety course, the agent may drive a patrol boat
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Agent Solano drove a patrol boat, so he holds a card, and cards go only to agents who passed both the navigation exam and the engine safety course. Holding a card is required for driving, not a sign that every card holder drives. The paragraph does not say whether he was alone. Passing one requirement, or even both, does not by itself give an agent a card or permission to drive.
Question 30 (hard)
Read the paragraph, then answer the question.
All agents at the Selbrin station must requalify with their service weapon every six months, except agents on approved medical leave, who requalify within 30 days of returning to duty. Agent Lorna Pellerin was on approved medical leave from January to May and returned to duty on June 1. Some agents at the station requalified in June.
From the information given above, which of the following CANNOT be validly concluded?
- A. Agent Pellerin must requalify within 30 days of returning to duty
- B. Agent Pellerin must requalify with her service weapon by July 1
- C. An agent at the station who is not on approved medical leave must requalify every six months
- D. Agent Pellerin was one of the agents who requalified in June
- E. Some agents at the station requalified with their service weapon in June
Show answer
Correct answer: D. Agent Pellerin has 30 days from June 1, so she could requalify in June or on July 1; the paragraph does not say she was one of the June group, and that statement cannot be concluded. The other four follow: the exception gives her 30 days from June 1, which ends on July 1; agents not on medical leave follow the six-month rule; and the third sentence says some agents requalified in June.
What these questions are, and are not
The 2026 preparation guide describes the Logical Reasoning Test: up to 120 minutes on a computer, five answer choices per question, about three minutes a question on average, and no going back or skipping. It does not publish the number of scored questions or the pass score. These questions practice the same kind of reasoning with made-up paragraphs about government work. They are not copies of the real test, and the real test may look different.
Frequently asked questions
What is on the Border Patrol Logical Reasoning test?
Each question gives a paragraph drawn from written material about CBP or government work. You accept every fact in it as true and pick the one conclusion that can be validly drawn, or the one that cannot, from five choices. The 2026 guide teaches statements with all, some, none and most, if-then statements and words such as only, unless, except and not. See how the exam works.
How many questions are on the Border Patrol entrance exam?
CBP does not publish a question count. The 2026 guide gives up to 120 minutes for the Logical Reasoning Test and says test takers spend about three minutes on a question, on average. The test is computer adaptive, so the questions you get depend on your answers.
Can I skip a question or go back on the Border Patrol exam?
No. The guide says the Logical Reasoning Test is computer adaptive: you cannot skip a question or return to one after you submit it, so give your best answer to each question.
Is there an official Border Patrol practice test?
Yes. The 2026 Border Patrol Agent Entrance Exam Preparation Guide has 8 practice questions, with a suggested limit of 20 minutes and an explanation for every choice. The questions on this page are our own and are not copied from the guide or the real test.
Is there a Spanish or math section on the Border Patrol exam?
No. The 2026 guide lists only two parts: the Experience Record and the Logical Reasoning Test. Spanish is taught at the Border Patrol Academy.
Do I need to study for the Experience Record?
The guide says the Experience Record measures background experience and needs no preparation. CBP does not publish how it is scored, so we explain it in our guides and do not offer practice for it.
