These 30 practice questions show the kind of questions and explanations you get with PrepRaven. They cover all 9 abilities from the official notice (Exam Nos. 7311 through 7322) for the NYC Police Officer Exam, three or four for each ability, from easy to hard. Every question is original. None of them is a real exam question.
The real test may show pictures of people for Memorization and Visualization: the notice's examples mention "an image and description" of a wanted person and people who have changed their appearance. PrepRaven does not offer face or picture memory questions yet. Our memory questions use written notices, our map questions use drawn street maps and our visualization questions use drawn rooms and racks.
Deductive Reasoning
Apply a set of general rules to a specific case and pick the logical answer.
Question 1 (easy)
Northside Precinct radio codes (made up for this question): Code 10 is for a crime that has already ended, with the suspect gone. Code 20 is for a crime that is still in progress. Code 30 is for a person who is sick or hurt and needs help, with no crime reported. Code 40 is for a traffic accident in which no one is hurt.
A store manager tells Officer Lena Park that a man took two bottles of juice from a shelf and ran out about ten minutes ago, and the man is nowhere in sight.
Which code should Officer Park use?
- A. Code 20
- B. Code 10
- C. Code 30
- D. Code 40
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The theft is over, and the suspect is gone. That is exactly what Code 10 covers. Code 20 would fit only if the man were still taking items or still at the scene. Code 30 is for a sick or hurt person with no crime, and Code 40 is for a traffic accident.
Question 2 (medium)
Made-up sign rule for the 300 block of Elm Street: No Standing, 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Monday through Friday. Under a No Standing rule, a vehicle may stop only long enough to pick up or drop off passengers. It may not wait, and it may not load or unload goods.
On a Tuesday at 8:15 AM, Officer Kevin Brennan walks the block.
Which vehicle is in violation?
- A. A car stopped while a passenger gets out with her bag, then pulls away
- B. A taxi stopped for a moment while a rider climbs into the back seat
- C. A car parked at the curb at 10:30 AM while the driver buys coffee at the corner deli
- D. A delivery van stopped while the driver carries boxes of paper into a store
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The van is unloading goods during the No Standing hours, and the rule does not allow that. Dropping off a passenger and picking up a rider are the two things the rule allows. The car at 10:30 AM is parked after the rule ends at 10:00 AM.
Question 3 (hard)
Made-up precinct rule for found property:
- (1)Any found property must be vouchered at the precinct before the end of the officer's tour.
- (2)If the property includes cash over $100, a supervisor must count the cash with the officer before it is vouchered.
- (3)If the property shows the owner's phone number, the officer must call it once and record the attempt in the memo book.
- (4)If the property includes a firearm, the officer must notify the desk officer at once and wait at the scene for a supervisor.
A pedestrian hands Officer Maya Johnson a wallet she found on the sidewalk. It holds $140 in cash, a driver license and the owner's business card with his phone number.
What must Officer Johnson do?
- A. Call the number once and record the attempt in the memo book, have a supervisor count the cash with her, and voucher the wallet before the tour ends
- B. Have a supervisor count the cash with her and voucher the wallet before the tour ends, with no call needed
- C. Call the number once and record the attempt in the memo book, then voucher the wallet before the tour ends, with no supervisor count needed
- D. Notify the desk officer at once and wait at the scene with the wallet until a supervisor arrives
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Three rules apply: the cash is over $100 (rule 2), the owner's phone number is on his card (rule 3) and all found property is vouchered before the tour ends (rule 1). Skipping the call ignores rule 3, and skipping the count ignores rule 2. Notifying the desk officer and waiting at the scene is the firearm rule, and there is no firearm.
Question 4 (easy)
Made-up post rule: An officer assigned to a fixed post may leave it only (1) when another officer relieves her, (2) to respond to a crime in progress that she can see from the post, or (3) when a supervisor orders her to.
Officer Rosa Delgado is on a fixed post outside a courthouse. A tourist asks her to walk him to a subway station two blocks away because he is lost. No one has relieved her.
What should Officer Delgado do?
- A. Walk the tourist to the station, because helping the public is part of the job
- B. Tell the desk officer by radio that she is leaving, then walk him to the station
- C. Stay on her post and give the tourist directions to the station
- D. Walk the tourist partway and come back to the post within five minutes
Show answer
Correct answer: C. None of the three reasons to leave applies: she has not been relieved, there is no crime in progress and no supervisor has ordered her to go. Helping the public is part of the job, but the rule limits when she may leave. Telling the desk officer is not the same as a supervisor's order, and walking partway still leaves the post.
Inductive Reasoning
Combine separate facts or observations to reach a general conclusion.
Question 5 (easy)
Officer Andre Wallace reviews six reports of car break-ins on Maple Avenue over the past two weeks. Every break-in happened between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM. In each car, a side window was broken, and only phone chargers and loose coins were taken. All six cars were parked on the one block of Maple Avenue between the school and the park, where two streetlights have been out for a month. No break-ins were reported on the lit blocks of Maple Avenue.
Which conclusion do these facts best support?
- A. The break-ins likely happen during school hours, when the street is busy.
- B. The thief is likely looking for laptops and other costly items left inside the cars.
- C. The break-ins are likely spread evenly along the whole length of Maple Avenue.
- D. The break-ins are likely tied to the dark block where the streetlights are out.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. All six break-ins were on the one dark block, and none were on the lit blocks, which points to the broken streetlights. The times were 1:00 AM to 4:00 AM, not school hours. Only chargers and coins were taken, and the break-ins were on one block, not spread along the avenue.
Question 6 (medium)
In one month, nine packages were reported stolen from the lobby of 410 Grand Street. Officer Grace Kim learns these facts: Every stolen package was left by the same delivery company, which delivers to the building only on Tuesdays and Fridays at about 11:00 AM. Packages from other companies, left in the same lobby on other days, were not taken. Each theft was reported before 2:00 PM on the day of delivery. The lobby camera shows that the street door was held open with a wedge each time. The street door closes and locks by itself when nothing blocks it.
Which conclusion do these facts best support?
- A. The thief likely knows that company's delivery days and enters while the door is held open.
- B. Packages from every delivery company are likely being taken on any day of the week.
- C. The lock on the street door is likely broken and no longer locks by itself.
- D. The thefts likely happen late at night, after most tenants have gone to bed.
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Only that company's packages were taken, only on its delivery days, and the door was wedged open each time. Packages from other companies were not taken, the door locks by itself when nothing blocks it, and every theft was reported before 2:00 PM, which rules out late at night.
Question 7 (hard)
Officer Luis Ortega reviews five robbery reports from the past three weeks. All five victims were delivery workers on electric bikes. All five robberies happened between 10:00 PM and midnight, within two blocks of the Ash Street subway exit. In each case, only the bike's battery was taken. Two victims described a tall man in a gray jacket. Two others described a short woman with a red backpack. The fifth victim was robbed by a tall man in a gray jacket and a short woman with a red backpack working together.
Which conclusion do these facts best support?
- A. One person wearing different clothes is likely committing all five robberies near the Ash Street exit.
- B. The robbers are likely after the workers' cash and phones as well as the bike batteries.
- C. The robberies likely happen at random places across the precinct, at all hours of the day.
- D. Two people, sometimes working together, are likely taking batteries near the Ash Street exit late at night.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The descriptions show two different people, and the fifth robbery had both of them together. One person in different clothes cannot be two people at once, which rules out that option. Only batteries were taken, which rules out cash and phones, and every robbery was near the Ash Street exit between 10:00 PM and midnight.
Information Ordering
Follow a given rule or set of steps in the correct order.
Question 8 (easy)
Made-up steps for storing found property:
- (1)Give the person who found it a receipt.
- (2)List each item on the property form.
- (3)Put the items in a property bag and seal it.
- (4)Write the voucher number on the bag.
- (5)Place the bag in the property locker and enter it in the property log.
Officer Nia Okafor has given the finder a receipt, listed the items on the form and sealed the bag.
What should she do next?
- A. Place the bag in the property locker
- B. Write the voucher number on the bag
- C. Enter the bag in the property log
- D. List each item on the property form
Show answer
Correct answer: B. She has finished Steps 1 to 3, so Step 4, writing the voucher number on the bag, comes next. Placing the bag in the locker and entering it in the log are both Step 5, which comes after the bag is numbered. Listing the items is Step 2, which she has already done.
Question 9 (medium)
Made-up steps at a traffic accident:
- (1)Make the scene safe and call for medical help for anyone hurt.
- (2)Collect each driver's license, registration and insurance card.
- (3)Interview the drivers and any witnesses.
- (4)Draw a diagram of the scene.
- (5)Give each driver the accident report number.
If a driver is taken to the hospital before Step 2, collect the other driver's documents, go on to Step 3 and collect the hospital driver's documents later at the hospital.
Officer Darnell Hughes called for medical help, and an ambulance took driver Sung Kim to the hospital. Officer Hughes has just collected the other driver's documents.
What should he do next?
- A. Go to the hospital to collect driver Kim's documents
- B. Draw a diagram of the scene
- C. Interview the other driver and any witnesses
- D. Give the other driver the accident report number
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The exception says that after collecting the other driver's documents, the officer goes on to Step 3, the interviews. Driver Kim's documents are collected later, after the steps at the scene. The diagram is Step 4, and the report number is Step 5, so both come after the interviews.
Question 10 (hard)
Made-up filing rule for summons copies: First, file by sector letter, from A to F. Within a sector, file by date, earliest first. For the same sector and date, file by summons number, lowest first. Officer Tanya Brooks must file copies of these four summonses:
Summons 4471: Sector C, October 3
Summons 4402: Sector B, October 5
Summons 4418: Sector C, October 3
Summons 4490: Sector C, October 1
Which summons copy is filed third?
- A. Summons 4418
- B. Summons 4471
- C. Summons 4490
- D. Summons 4402
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Sector B comes before Sector C, which places 4402 first. Within Sector C, October 1 comes before October 3, so 4490 is second. The two October 3 summonses go lowest number first, which makes 4418 third and 4471 fourth. Choosing 4490 or 4402 sorts by number or date before sector.
Memorization
Remember words, numbers and procedures after studying them.
Show the notice: Sector D roll call notice (study it for 60 seconds, then close it)
Roll call, Northside Precinct, Thursday, 4:00 PM tour. Sergeant Ana Ruiz.
Wanted for questioning about a store burglary on Birch Street: a man about 30 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a short beard, a black knit cap and a green jacket. He was last seen riding a red bicycle toward Lake Park.
Missing person: Elena Brooks, 78, gray hair, blue raincoat, uses a cane. She left her home at 212 Cedar Avenue at 1:15 PM.
Sector D car: Officers Grant and Molina, Car 4417. Meal break at 8:30 PM.
Question 11 (easy)
Based on the notice you just studied, what color was the jacket of the man wanted for questioning?
- A. Black
- B. Blue
- C. Red
- D. Green
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The notice describes a black knit cap and a green jacket. Black is the color of his cap, red is the color of his bicycle and blue is the color of the missing woman's raincoat.
Question 12 (medium)
Based on the notice you just studied, which description matches the missing person?
- A. Age 87, gray hair, blue raincoat, uses a cane
- B. Age 78, gray hair, blue raincoat, uses a cane
- C. Age 78, gray hair, green raincoat, uses a cane
- D. Age 78, gray hair, blue raincoat, uses a walker
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Elena Brooks is 78, with gray hair and a blue raincoat, and she uses a cane. Age 87 reverses the digits, green is the color of the wanted man's jacket and the notice says a cane, not a walker.
Show the notice: Stolen vehicle alert (study it for 60 seconds, then close it)
Stolen vehicle alert, Northside Precinct, Monday.
1. Gray Honda sedan, New York plate KTR-4182, taken from a garage on Pine Street at 6:40 AM.
2. White Ford van, New Jersey plate DLM-4520, with a ladder rack and a dented rear door, taken from a work site on Orchard Road.
3. Black Toyota SUV, New York plate HBN-7731, with a cracked windshield, taken from outside 88 Spruce Avenue.
If you find one of these vehicles, do not move it. Notify the desk officer and wait for the detective squad.
Question 13 (medium)
Based on the alert you just studied, which vehicle had a cracked windshield?
- A. The black Toyota SUV
- B. The white Ford van
- C. The gray Honda sedan
- D. The black Ford van
Show answer
Correct answer: A. The cracked windshield was on the black Toyota SUV, taken from outside 88 Spruce Avenue. The white Ford van had a ladder rack and a dented rear door, the alert lists no damage for the gray Honda sedan and no black Ford van appears in the alert.
Question 14 (hard)
Based on the alert you just studied, what plate was on the vehicle taken from a garage on Pine Street?
- A. New York plate KTR-4812
- B. New Jersey plate KTR-4182
- C. New York plate KTR-4182
- D. New York plate HBN-7731
Show answer
Correct answer: C. The gray Honda sedan from the Pine Street garage had New York plate KTR-4182. KTR-4812 switches two digits, the van was the vehicle with a New Jersey plate and HBN-7731 belongs to the black Toyota SUV.
Problem Sensitivity
Notice when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
Question 15 (easy)
Officer Brian Lee is taking a report from a woman whose purse was snatched on the street a few minutes ago. She tells him four things.
Which one most clearly suggests that she could soon face a second crime?
- A. She would like a copy of the report number for her records.
- B. Her house keys and a letter with her home address were in the purse.
- C. She is upset and speaks quickly when she describes the man who took it.
- D. She already called her bank and canceled her credit cards.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The person who took the purse now has her keys and her address, so her home could be entered. Asking for the report number is routine, being upset after a robbery is normal and canceling her cards has already removed that risk.
Question 16 (medium)
Officer Carmen Ruiz arrests a man for shoplifting outside a store and is walking him to the patrol car. Which of these most clearly signals a problem that she should deal with right away?
- A. The man asks her several times why he is being arrested.
- B. The store manager asks for a copy of the arrest report.
- C. The man keeps his right hand in his jacket pocket after being told twice to take it out.
- D. Two people across the street are recording the arrest on their phones.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. A hand kept in a pocket after two orders could hide a weapon, which is a danger to the officer and others. A question about the reason for the arrest is common, a report copy can wait and people may lawfully record an arrest from across the street.
Question 17 (hard)
At 9:40 PM, two gray sedans crash at an intersection with a traffic light. Driver Omar Ahmed tells Officer Julia Reyes that he had a green light and was going about 20 mph. Driver Linda Collins says she did not see the light because she was looking at her phone's map. Witness Brenda Tate says she saw the whole crash from the bus stop on the corner and that the black car ran a red light.
Which detail most clearly suggests that one of the statements is not accurate?
- A. Tate says the black car ran the light, but both cars in the crash are gray.
- B. Collins says she did not see the light because she was looking at her phone's map.
- C. Ahmed says he had a green light and was going about 20 mph.
- D. The crash happened at 9:40 PM, when it was dark outside.
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Neither car is black, so Tate's statement does not fit the facts, and the officer should question her more closely. Collins admits she did not see the light, which is not a conflict. Ahmed's account does not clash with anything known, and a traffic light can be seen at night.
Spatial Orientation
Work out where you are in relation to a place, or where it is in relation to you, such as on a street map.
Question 18 (easy)
Use the map. The gray squares are streets. Officer Ming Zhao is at the Hospital after taking a statement and is sent to a report of a fight outside the Deli.
In which direction is the Deli from the Hospital?
- A. Northwest
- B. East
- C. Northeast
- D. Southeast
Show answer
Correct answer: C. North is at the top of the map. The Deli is in the top row at the far right, and the Hospital is in the bottom row at the left, which puts the Deli up and to the right: northeast. It is not level with the Hospital, which rules out east, and it is north, not south, of the Hospital. Northwest would place it to the left.
Question 19 (medium)
Use the map. The gray squares are streets. Officers Harris and Novak are in their patrol car beside the Hospital.
Driving only on the gray street squares and obeying the one-way arrows, which of these places can they reach by driving on the fewest street squares?
- A. Precinct
- B. Bank
- C. School
- D. Deli
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The arrow on the short street between the Park and the Library points south, which means the car cannot go north there. Every route north must use the street just east of the Library. Counted along the legal routes, the Bank is 6 squares away, the School and the Deli are 8 each and the Precinct is 11. The Precinct looks closest, but the arrow blocks the direct route north.
Question 20 (hard)
Use the map. The gray squares are streets. Officer Nadia Owusu drives from the Bakery to the Subway Station to meet a witness. Driving only on the gray street squares and obeying the one-way arrow, how many street squares does she drive on along the shortest legal route? Count every street square on the route, including the first one next to the Bakery and the last one next to the Subway Station.
- A. 4
- B. 5
- C. 7
- D. 6
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The arrow on the middle street, between the Pizzeria and the Post Office, points south, which means she cannot drive north on it. She drives to the right end of the lower street, north past the Post Office to the upper street, then west to the square beside the Subway Station: 6 squares in all. The answer 5 is the shorter route straight north past the arrow, which is not allowed, and 4 and 7 miscount the squares.
Visualization
Picture how something would look after it is moved or its parts are rearranged, such as a room seen from a different door.
Question 21 (easy)
Officer Sofia Marino answers a burglary call at a deli and checks the stockroom. The drawing shows the stockroom from above, with north at the top. She steps in through the South Door, so she faces north.
From where she stands, which item is in the far right corner?
- A. Freezer
- B. Mop Sink
- C. Ladder
- D. Shelves
Show answer
Correct answer: A. Coming in through the South Door, she faces north, the same way the drawing is printed, so her right is east. The far right corner is the northeast corner, where the Freezer is. The Mop Sink is in the far left corner, the Ladder is in the near right corner and the Shelves are in the near left corner.
Question 22 (medium)
At the start of the tour, Officer Kwame Mensah takes the radio charger rack off the wall. The drawing shows the rack as you face it on the wall. He rehangs the rack after giving it a half turn so that it hangs upside down (the top left spot is now the bottom right), and then Radio 2 and Radio 6 trade places.
As you face the rack now, where is Radio 2?
- A. Bottom middle
- B. Top middle
- C. Top left
- D. Bottom right
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Turning the rack upside down is a half turn: Radio 2 moves from the top middle to the bottom middle, and Radio 6 moves from the bottom right to the top left. Then the two radios trade places, which puts Radio 2 at the top left. Bottom middle forgets the trade, bottom right forgets the half turn and top middle is where Radio 2 started.
Question 23 (hard)
Compare the Original drawing of the precinct muster room with Plans A through D. Exactly one plan shows the same room rotated, with every item in its place. Each other plan shows a mirror image or has two items swapped.
Which plan is it?
- A. Plan A
- B. Plan B
- C. Plan C
- D. Plan D
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Turning the original a quarter turn counterclockwise puts the Lockers at the top left, the Board at the top right, the Podium down the left side at the bottom and the Coffee at the bottom right, which matches Plan B. Plan D is the same turn seen in a mirror, with the Podium on the right. Plan C is a quarter turn clockwise with the Coffee and the Board swapped, and Plan A is the original flipped top to bottom.
Written Comprehension
Understand sentences and paragraphs written in English, such as a policy, a rule or a sign.
Question 24 (easy)
Made-up precinct directive: When an officer finds a lost child under 12, the officer must stay with the child until a parent, a guardian or another officer takes over. The officer should ask the child for a name, an address and a phone number. The officer must not take the child to the precinct unless no parent or guardian can be found within one hour. If the child is taken to the precinct, the officer must tell the desk officer at once and record the time of arrival in the memo book. A child must never be left alone in a patrol car, even for a short time.
According to the directive, which statement is correct?
- A. An officer may take a lost child to the precinct right away if the child cannot give an address.
- B. If no parent or guardian is found within one hour, the officer may take the child to the precinct.
- C. The desk officer must record the time the child arrives at the precinct in the memo book.
- D. A lost child may wait in the patrol car while the officer speaks with a store clerk across the street.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The directive allows a trip to the precinct only when no parent or guardian is found within one hour. Not knowing an address does not change that rule, a child must never be left alone in a patrol car and the officer, not the desk officer, records the arrival time in the memo book.
Question 25 (medium)
Made-up parking rules for the 400 block of Linden Street: Parking is not allowed from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, parking is allowed all day. From 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, a vehicle may park for up to two hours with a paid meter receipt. From 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, parking is free and has no time limit. A vehicle with a valid disability parking permit may park during meter hours without paying, but the two-hour limit still applies.
According to these rules, which vehicle is parked legally?
- A. A car with no receipt, parked from 11:00 PM Wednesday to 7:30 AM Thursday
- B. A car with a paid meter receipt, parked at 2:00 PM on a Saturday
- C. A car with a disability permit and no receipt, parked from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM on a Tuesday
- D. A car with a paid two-hour receipt, parked from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM on a Friday
Show answer
Correct answer: A. From 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM, parking is free with no time limit, which covers 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Saturday at 2:00 PM is inside the no parking hours, and a receipt does not change that. The permit car stayed three hours and the Friday car two and a half hours, and both are over the two-hour limit.
Question 26 (hard)
Made-up precinct memo on street vendors: An officer who sees a vendor selling without a displayed license must first ask the vendor to show a license. If the vendor shows a valid license that was not displayed, the officer gives a warning for failure to display and records it in the memo book. A second failure to display within 30 days of a warning gets a summons instead of a warning. If the vendor has no valid license, the officer issues a summons for unlicensed vending. Goods are removed only if the cart blocks more than half the width of the sidewalk or any part of a crosswalk.
Vendor Samuel Okafor is not displaying his license, but he shows a valid one. Officer Erin Walsh's memo book shows she warned him for the same thing three weeks ago. His cart takes up about a third of the sidewalk width, away from the crosswalk.
What should Officer Walsh do?
- A. Give a second warning for failure to display and leave the goods in place
- B. Issue a summons for unlicensed vending and remove the goods
- C. Issue a summons for failure to display and leave the goods in place
- D. Issue a summons for failure to display and remove the goods
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Three weeks is within 30 days of the first warning, so this second failure gets a summons, not a warning. His license is valid, which rules out a summons for unlicensed vending. The cart blocks only a third of the sidewalk and none of the crosswalk, which means the goods stay.
Written Expression
Use English words and sentences so that others understand what you wrote.
Question 27 (easy)
Officer Daniel Cho's facts: at 2:10 PM, he found a black backpack on a bench at the bus stop at Elm Street and 4th Avenue. No one claimed it. He took it to the precinct and vouchered it.
Which memo book entry is the clearest and most accurate?
- A. At 2:10 PM, I found a black backpack on a bench at the bus stop at Elm Street and 4th Avenue, no one claimed it, I vouchered it at the precinct.
- B. At 2:10 PM, I found a black backpack on a bench at the bus stop at Elm Street and 4th Avenue. No one claimed it, and I vouchered it at the precinct.
- C. At 2:10 PM, a commuter forgot a black backpack on a bench at the bus stop at Elm Street and 4th Avenue, and I vouchered it at the precinct.
- D. Sitting on a bench at the bus stop at Elm Street and 4th Avenue, I found a black backpack at 2:10 PM that no one claimed and vouchered it.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The correct entry gives every fact in two complete sentences. One option joins three sentences with commas. Another says a commuter forgot the bag, which Officer Cho did not see, and leaves out that no one claimed it. The last one reads as if the officer was sitting on the bench.
Question 28 (medium)
Witness Grace Lin tells Officer Raj Patel that at about 7:45 PM she saw a man in a red hoodie take a bike from the rack outside 55 Oak Street and ride it north on Oak Street.
Which sentence for the report is the clearest and most accurate?
- A. Witness Grace Lin stated that at about 7:45 PM a man in a red hoodie stole her bike from the rack outside 55 Oak Street and rode north.
- B. At about 7:45 PM, witness Grace Lin stated she saw a man in a red hoodie take a bike from the rack outside 55 Oak Street and ride north on Oak Street.
- C. Witness Grace Lin stated that she saw a man take a bike from the rack outside 55 Oak Street and ride north on Oak Street.
- D. Witness Grace Lin stated that at about 7:45 PM she saw a man in a red hoodie take a bike from the rack outside 55 Oak Street and ride north on Oak Street.
Show answer
Correct answer: D. The correct sentence keeps every fact and puts the time with what she saw. One option says the bike was hers, which she did not say. Another makes 7:45 PM the time she gave her statement, not the time of the theft. The last one leaves out the time and the red hoodie.
Question 29 (hard)
Officer Ana Ortiz is writing the arrest report. Her facts: at 11:20 PM, she and Officer Lee arrested Mark Davis inside the Quick Stop store at 300 Bay Avenue. Store clerk Hana Silva identified Davis as the man who had taken $60 from the register.
Which version is written correctly?
- A. At 11:20 PM, Officer Lee and I arrested Mark Davis inside the Quick Stop store at 300 Bay Avenue. Store clerk Hana Silva identified Davis as the man who had taken $60 from the register.
- B. At 11:20 PM, Officer Lee and me arrested Mark Davis inside the Quick Stop store at 300 Bay Avenue. Store clerk Hana Silva identified Davis as the man who had taken $60 from the register.
- C. At 11:20 PM, Officer Lee and I arrested Mark Davis inside the Quick Stop store at 300 Bay Avenue. Store clerk Hana Silva identified him as the man who took $60 from the register after he was arrested.
- D. At 11:20 PM, Officer Lee and I arrested Mark Davis inside the Quick Stop store at 300 Bay Avenue, store clerk Hana Silva identified Davis as the man who had taken $60 from the register.
Show answer
Correct answer: A. The correct version uses "Officer Lee and I" as the subject and keeps the facts in order. "Officer Lee and me" is the wrong pronoun for a subject. One version says the money was taken after the arrest, and another joins two sentences with a comma.
